Cantina Chitarra was founded in 1914 in the heart of Marsala, near the ancient Chitarra Ranch, from which it takes its name, by a group of audacious and ambitious wine-growers, owners of several hectares of land distributed between Marsala and Salemi.
In 1975 the winery was transformed into a coop of growers, and continued family run winemaking, without losing its own identity defined by attention to the tradition and promotion of culture and experience. In 2009 the winery started to bottle its product with the brand "Il Gattopardo". This name is borrowed from a famous novel, which incarnates the spirit of our beautiful island of Sicily, as well as the charm and elegance of its wines.
Now the Cantina Chitarra is composed by 400 growers and produces 500,000 bottles. Our production includes a range of wines that, in addition to express the characteristics of Sicilian varieties like the native whites Grillo, Moscato, Inzolia, Catarratto, Grecanico, Zibibbo/Moscato and the reds, Nero d'Avola, Frappato; is also able to exalt the intensity of international wines like Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio.
A tradition that has its roots in the very beginning of viticulture, and the passion for our land, are behind the uniqueness of our wines. They express the strong personality and terroir from which they come from.
